Swedish aerospace and defence group Saab is looking at ways to further its co-operation with Denel as the South African group undergoes restructuring. The company says it “cannot rule out” a merger, although Saab could bid for individual units of Denel. “We are of course most interested in those parts of the company that have a military angle and that could fit in with the portfolio Saab already has in defence and aerospace,” Saab says. The company adds: “We have a strong interest in South Africa and see great business opportunities with South African partners.” Last year Saab bought a majority stake in South African electronics company Grintek.
