Work has started at Saab Ericsson Space on two major satellite projects.

The company, which is featured in Hall 1, has won contracts to provide vital components for Metop meteorological and Astra communications satellites.

Saab will supply antenna interface units, flight computers, and radar antennas for three Metop satellites, the first of which will be launched into polar orbits April 2003. The satellites are being built by Matra Marconi Space and Daimler-Benz Aerospace.

The Astra 1K communications satellite will be equipped with Saab-built data units, antenna pointing electronics and radio frequency systems. Astra 1K, being built by prime contractor Aerospatiale, will fly on an Ariane in late 1999.
