JAS39 GRIPEN

An initial batch of 30 production JAS39As for the Swedish air force was ordered in 1982, followed by a second batch of 110, including 14 JAS 39B two-seaters in 1992. Batch 1 deliveries began in 1993 and the last Batch 2 aircraft will be delivered in 2002. A decision on a third production batch of JAS39s is scheduled for 1997. The first JAS39B was flown in 1996 and deliveries will begin in 1998. Saab and BAe are collaboratively working on an export variant of the Gripen. Variants of the JAS39 are being offered to some former Warsaw Pact states.
