Saab Systems has launched a takeover bid for Australian unmanned air vehicle (UAV) company Aerosonde Holdings, in which it already holds an 18% stake. Aerosonde opposes the offer, which it believes undervalues the company, and hopes to secure new investors from the US defence and aerospace sector. Aerosonde has a market value of A$2.5 million ($1.3 million). The company is seeking to develop a global meteorological monitoring service based on constellations of UAVs flying at mid-atmospheric levels to provide remote area sampling data.
