Saab Avitronics has announced an order from Flight Refuelling to provide BOL 510 countermeasures dispensers for Eurofighter Tranche 2 Typhoons. Order value is around $24 million.
"This is strategically a very important order for Saab Avitronics,” says president and managing director Björn Erman. “It further consolidates our position on the Eurofighter from Tranche 1.”
Eurofighter will supply 236 Tranche 2 Typhoons to the Germany, Italy, Spain and the UK. A further 18 aircraft will be delivered to Austria.
The Saab BOL system holds five times more chaff packages than conventional dispensers, says the company. Production will take place at Saab Avitronics in Järfälla, Sweden. Deliveries of the units will start in April and run until November 2011.
Saab BOL countermeasures dispenser systems are operational on several frontline types, including the BAE Systems Harrier GR7 and Panavia Tornado, the Boeing F-15 Eagle and the Saab JAS39 Gripen. The system is under development for the Royal Australian Air Force’s Boeing F/A-18 Hornets.
