Sabena is in talks with South African domestic airline Nationwide Air Charter over a possible strategic alliance. An agreement is expected soon.
It is understood that the two carriers are looking at codesharing on several domestic routes in South Africa which would connect with Sabena's long-haul flights to and from Johannesburg. The Belgian carrier is also known to be keen to expand its presence in South Africa.
South African Airways, SA Express and SA Airlink have signed a memorandum of understanding to form an alliance. The airlines plan to co-ordinate flight schedules and introduce common branding, but will continue independent operations.
