South African leasing company Safair has become the world's leading commercial operator of the Lockheed Hercules with the purchase of five L-100-30 Commercial Hercules from São Tomé and Principe-based charter operator Transafrik (TWL). The aircraft will be delivered over the next six months, increasing Safair's L-100-30 fleet to 12, the largest number ever owned by the company. Safair chief executive Hugh Flynn says the transaction is consistent with its commitment to grow its Hercules operations internationally. TWL sold the Hercules as part of a comprehensive fleet revitalisation project, which includes reactivation of aircraft stored in the USA.
