China Airlines (CAL) has contracted Lufthansa Technik to help the accident-prone Taiwanese national carrier improve its safety record. Lufthansa Technik will advise CAL on drawing up new operational and maintenance management procedures over the next two to three years. The airline has suffered from a spate of fatal and non-fatal accidents since 1993, involving the deaths of 264 people, the destruction of an Airbus A300-600R and a Boeing 747-400, and extensive damage to a 747-200.
