French investigators appear to be poised to conduct the initial evaluation and download of information from flight recorders recovered from the crashed Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737 Max.
Investigation authority BEA tells FlightGlobal that it has been selected for the analysis work, although the recorders have yet to be received by the organisation.
A spokesman for BEA says they could arrive on 14 March. Both the cockpit-voice and flight-data recorder have been retrieved from the wreckage of the aircraft which came down on 10 March after departing Addis Ababa.
German accident investigation authority BFU had earlier disclosed to FlightGlobal that it would not be involved in the recorder evaluation.
This followed previous indications by a number of media that investigators in Ethiopia were planning to send the recorders to a European facility for download.
