Russian authorities are investigating the presence of a person on the runway at Moscow Sheremetyevo, days after a fatal accident at the hub under similar circumstances.
The federal Investigative Committee’s transport division states that an Aeroflot aircraft – operating flight SU1126 to Sochi – had to abort its take-off from runway 24C as a result.
Aeroflot typically operates this route using Boeing 737-800s.
The Investigative Committee says the incident occurred on 29 November at 16:00, which would have been around sunset.
Visibility at the time was good, according to meteorological data for Sheremetyevo at the time.
“Measures are being taken to establish all the circumstances and causes of the incident,” says the Investigative Committee.
It points out that this was the second such event in the same month. Investigators were already probing a 20 November accident during which an Aeroflot 737 struck and killed a person while departing runway 24L.
