Ryanair is insisting that its Dutch operations will not be disrupted by a sudden decision by local pilots to join a strike against the airline.
The budget airline says there will be “no cancellations” to or from the Netherlands on 10 August, despite the 24h industrial action which had already included German, Swedish, Belgian and Irish pilots.
Ryanair says it “fully respects” the right of Dutch pilots to strike, but it is requesting that the Dutch pilot union VNV gives the carrier at least seven days’ notice in order to allow the airline to minimise disruption.
The carrier is expecting to operate 85% of its overall flight schedule for 10 August, and claims the majority of passengers affected by the strikes have already been re-assigned to other Ryanair flights.
Ryanair describes the strike action as “unnecessary” and has urged the unions involved to engage in negotiations.
