Safire Aircraft is slashing the price of its Safire Jet by up to 15%for a limited period as it attempts to build the twin-engined personal jet's firm order backlog. The Opa Locka, Florida-based manufacturer holds more than 720 deposits for the all-metal aircraft.

"The programme requires a first payment of $180,000, which will go into a protected escrow account," says Safire. "These firm orders will be for delivery positions in the second year of production."

Development of the five-seat aircraft is proceeding well, says the company, which has selected a panel-mounted yoke for the Safire Jet following "comprehensive customer research". First flight of the Williams International FJ33-4-powered aircraft is scheduled for next year, leading to certification and first deliveries in late 2005 and 2006, respectively.

The Safire Jet will be produced at the manufacturer's 46,250m2 (500,000ft2) aircraft assembly plant at Opa Locka airport, construction of which is due to begin in the third quarter of next year.
