Edgely Sailplanes has announced that it has secured funding to develop a two-seater variant of its EA9 'Optimist' sailplane. The prototype single-seater is on show at the static display park, having been on tour around the UK's gliding clubs over the summer.

The Devon-based sailplane manufacturer has received investment of £250,000 from offshore venture capital company Evington to develop the new version, which will be used by clubs to train gliders pilots.

Edgley says it will recruit new design staff and claims it can have a prototype two-seater available early in 2000.
