The government of the Russian autonomous republic of Sakha/ Yakutia has signed a deal with KhAPO, the Ukrainian production plant, to acquire four new Antonov An-140 regional turboprops for local services. The republic's government and a state-owned bank financed the deal.

The An-140 programme is recovering from the loss of many of its senior managers in a 23 December crash in Iran, which is where the type is being assembled under licence.

Last month, the Sakha government reorganised the republic's airline industry into two operators - Yakutia Air Company and Polar Airlines. The latter looks to be the likely recipient for the An-140s.
