AN AEROSPATIALE/ALENIA Aster 30 surface-to-air missile (SAM) has successfully been tested in a simulated interception of a combat aircraft flying at 46,000ft (14,000m) and at a range of 30km (16nm). The test was the first in which the missile was in the so-called "controlled configuration" with target data been provided from the tracking radar via a datalink. The missile is being developed as apart of the Future Surface-to Air family of weapons.
