India's long-running Saras light- transport aircraft looks set to take to the air next year, says Dr Krishnadas Nair, president of the Society of Indian Aerospace Technologies and Industries.

The 14-seat twin turboprop has been under development at Bangalore-based National Aerospace Laboratories since 1986, but has suffered financial setbacks. The aircraft is powered by two rear fuselage-mounted Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A turboprops in a pusher configuration, and has a maximum take-off weight of 6,100kg (13,440lb).
