Canada's Department of National Defence has awarded EMS Technologies a C$9 million ($6 million) contract to update the design of the SARSAT search-and-rescue beacon tracking payload carried by meteorological satellites. Launches of satellites carrying the new SARSAT flight repeater are expected to begin in 2008.
