The SAS Group has purchased Maersk Air's 49% stake in flag-carrier Estonian Air, and may later acquire the 17% share in the airline held by Estonian investment bank Cresco. The purchase, which totalled SKr180 million ($23 million), strengthens SAS Scandinavian Airlines' position in the Baltic region. Estonian Air was formed in 1991 and privatised in 1996. The government holds a 34% in its national carrier.
