Scandinavian carrier SAS has converted recently ordered Boeing 737-600s into orders for "at least 12" 737-700s and 737-800s. This is the first time that the carrier has ordered the larger members of the twinjet family.

In July, SAS converted 14 737-600 options into firm orders. Following that order, SAS' firm order total stood at 55 aircraft with 40 options.

The airline says it continues to have the same number, suggesting it has converted orders rather than making additional commitments.

It was the launch customer for the smallest member of Boeing's so-called Next Generation 737 family, signing for 41 firm orders and 35 options in September 1995.
