Iridium Satellite says the number of general aviation aircraft equipped with its satellite communications has more than doubled since 2003, passing the 2,500 mark late last year. Aviation is now one of the largest segments for the company. One emerging aviation application is flight tracking, with several companies offering automated flight following via Iridium's constellation of 66 low-Earth orbiting satellites.
