Russia's State Committee for Telecommunications has signed a contract with Aerospatiale, Alcatel Espace and NPO-PM for production and delivery of three Express K telecommunications satellites to replace those spacecraft which are now in service. They will provide telephone, facsimile and data transmission services to the entire Russian Federation. Launch of the first satellite is scheduled for early 2000, aboard a Proton rocket.
