Japan's Institute of Space and Astronautical Sciences satellite, Astro D, launched in 1993 and named the Advanced Satellite for Cosmology, entered a safe mode between 15-16 July after going out of control during a solar storm. Officials fear the spacecraft, which is still tumbling, may be lost.
