Russian engine manufacturer Saturn (previously Rybinsk Motors) is developing a Chapter 3 hushkit modification for D-30KP engines which power the Ilyushin Il-62 airliner and Il-76 freighter (above).

Saturn has completed technical design changes for the powerplant, but is awaiting Ilyushin's modifications for the engine nacelles. The package for the Il-76 is expected to to be unveiled imminently but the Il-62 will take "much more time". The modification will result in "some performance loss", says the manufacturer.

Meanwhile Russian airline Volga Dnepr has signed an agreement with Aviadvigatel and Perm Motors to acquire a set of five PS-90As (including a spare engine) which are to be installed on one of itsIl-76s. Perm will also provide maintenance and support, and if successful, the conversion will be offered to other Il-76 operators.
