Flight International Online news 09:30GMT: Saudi Arabian Airlines is to turn its attention to widebody fleet renewal over the next six months as it looks towards phasing out its Airbus A300s and other ageing types.

The flag-carrier is studying options in the 250-seat sector including the Airbus A350 and Boeing 787.

Speaking to ATI at the Arab Air Carriers Organisation (AACO) conference in Sana’a, Saudi Arabian Airlines director general Khaled Ben-Bakr said that the airline would be looking at making a decision on modernisation by mid-2006.

Saudi Arabian Airlines operates nine A300-600s which are more than 20 years old as well as nine Boeing 747-300s of a similar age. The carrier also has several older 747-100s in its fleet.
