Nothing less than a major improvement in the competitiveness of the entire UK aerospace supply chain is the goal of host organisation the Society of British Aerospace Companies.

SBAC is collaborating with Britain's Department of Trade and Industry on an array of measures under the Best Practice Programmes banner.

They fall into five major areas – the Lean Aerospace Initiative (LAI), Supply Chain Relationships in Action (SCRIA), and the e-Business, Business Winning and People Management programmes – all supported by the on-line Best Practice Centre.

Inevitable

Commenting on the e-Business programme, SBAC director-general David Marshall says: "You, your business and ideally your supply chain must be properly prepared for the inevitable changes that e-business will bring. There has never been a better time to prepare yourselves than now."

LAI is one of the busiest areas, covering no fewer than eight separate activities: lean awareness workshops, lean metrics training, value-stream mapping, lean enterprise masterclasses, team leader/change agent training, supply-chain groups, the LAI accelerated improvement workshops, and the Six Sigma defect-elimination programme.
