The Israeli navy is to decide this year whether to upgrade its Sea-Scan maritime-patrol aircraft or replace it with a turboprop. The Sea-Scan, an Israeli Aircraft Industries Westwind 1124 executive jet converted to serve in the maritime-surveillance role, is expensive to operate and, says the navy, is too fast for its main role. The evaluation is aimed at choosing either an upgrade of the Sea-Scan or to replace it with a turboprop. The Beechcraft Super King Air B-200 is a leading candidate if the turboprop option is selected, as the Israelis already operate the type.
