Austria has joined the Schengen group and Italy and Greece have signed but not implemented the agreement. Denmark, Finland and Sweden may be joining soon. But Amsterdam/Schiphol has abandoned the use of a magnetic card turnstile for passengers travelling within Schengen countries. Fraud and passenger confusion were cited as the reasons for dropping the $1.95 million system.
