UK regional carrier City Star Airlines has suspended all services after one of its Fairchild Dornier 328 turboprop aircraft overran the runway at Aberdeen Airport yesterday.
The aircraft, an eight-year old example registered TF-CSB and owned by Millennium Leasing, had been arriving from the Norwegian city of Stavanger at 21:10.
None of the 16 passengers and three crew members was injured but Aberdeen Airport was closed for about one hour. UK air accident investigators are expected to begin an inquiry today.
The airport says that the aircraft was landing from the south, on runway 34, but is unable to clarify how far beyond the end the turboprop came to rest.
Aberdeen’s main runway 16/34 is 1,830m (6,000ft) long. As part of a development plan by airport operator BAA the runway is to be extended by 300m.
The carrier states on its internet reservations site that all flights have been “suspended until further notice”. It has not given a reason for the decision and the airline could not immediately be reached for comment.
City Star Airlines, linked with the Icelandic domestic operator Landsflug, began services last year and has a small fleet of 328s which conduct flights between Aberdeen and three Norwegian destinations.
