The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) plans to launch its second Geostationary Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV) next year, carrying the GSAT 2 satellite. ISRO says it is pleased with the performance of the GSLV D-1 flight launched in April (pictured above) despite a slight shortfall in performance which required the GSAT 1 satellite's thrusters to be used to reach the correct geostationary orbit. "The first developmental flight has validated various sub-systems of the vehicle in actual flight, along with the associated ground systems," says ISRO, adding "the first GSLV mission was a success".
