A consortium has been formed by FiatAvio of Italy, ITP of Spain, MTU of Germany and Snecma of France to offer the M138 engine for the Airbus A400M military transport.

Airbus Military has already placed the M138, which can be seen in Hall 2/C16, on its short list of powerplant candidates.

The proposal submitted to Airbus covers the entire programme, from development to in-service support and encompasses all technical and commercial aspects.

The M138's high-pressure core is derived from Snecma's M88 engine, which powers the Rafale fighter, while MTU, FiatAvio and ITP contribute to the technology of the EJ200 engine that powers the Eurofighter Typhoon.
