BAE Systems has awarded Selex Galileo a contract worth roughly £400 million ($615 million) to provide defensive aids subsystem (DASS) equipment for Tranche 3A production examples of the Eurofighter Typhoon.
Dubbed Praetorian, the self-protection suite comprises electronic countermeasures and electronic support measures equipment, plus missile approach warners. In all, it has more than 20 line replaceable items supplied by Selex Galileo and its EuroDASS consortium partners EADS, Elettronica and Indra Sistemas.
Deliveries under the new contract will start in mid-2012, with the system to be installed on a combined 112 aircraft for Germany, Italy, Spain and the UK.
Selex says the new award will deliver Praetorian systems "to the same standard as those delivered for the Tranche 2 [Eurofighter] programme", but "with the capacity for future capability enhancements."
