Seven communications satellites were launched from Plesetsk, Russia, and Cape Canaveral, Florida, on 14 and 16 February, respectively. A Tsyklon 3 booster carried the Gonets D1-4-6 civilian digital-communications spacecraft and three similar Cosmos military craft into low-Earth orbit. In Florida, an ILS International Launch Services Atlas 2AS lofted the Hughes Japanese JCSAT 4 into orbit.
