The second-generation flight management system (FMS) being jointly developed by Sextant Avionique and Smiths Industries for the Airbus A320 and A330/A340 families has been selected by several airlines for their existing fleets and future orders. The airlines are Air France, America West, Asiana, China Northwest, China Southwest and US Airways and an undisclosed major US carrier. The FMS is due to be certificated for the A320 in December 1999 and in May 2000 for the A330/A340.
