China’s Shanghai Airlines is acquiring five Airbus A321s for delivery in 2011-12 and has agreed sale and leasebacks on four Boeing 757s. The Shanghai-based carrier says the purchase of the five A321s has been approved by both the company’s board and the Chinese government. The aircraft will be delivered in 2011 and 2012.
An Airbus spokeswoman in Beijing confirms that the aircraft are part of the 150-aircraft A320-family deal signed between Airbus and the China Aviation Supplies Import and Export Group Corporation (CASGC) in Beijing last October.
In a separate statement to the Shanghai stock exchange Shanghai Airlines says it is proceeding with sale and leasebacks with Aircastle on four 757-200s, built between 1993 and 1995. The aircraft are being sold for $66 million, it adds. According to Flight’s ACAS database Shanghai Airlines has 12 757s.
