Anglo-Dutch oil giant Shell is considering use of London City Airport in the UK as an additional centre for its corporate-jet operations.

Shell Aircraft operates two Raytheon Hawker 1000s and a Gulfstream IV from Northolt airfield in Middlesex and from its base at London Heathrow Airport. Now it is undertaking a six-month trial at the airport, flying a Dassault Falcon 50 twinjet.

The trial will look at the airport's efficiency for Shell's business-aircraft operations. The company has reported a reduction in flying times to and from mainland Europe, and greater access to take-off and landing slots, which, says Shell, are often denied to corporate-aircraft operators at Heathrow.
