Sukhoi’s Su-80 short-haul twin-turboprop transport made its first flight last week from the Komsomolsk-on-Amur Aircraft Production Association (KnAAPO) plant. The aircraft is designed to replace obsolete Antonov An-24s, An-26s, and Yakovlev Yak-40s. Certification is targeted for the first quarter of 2008. The twin-boom Su-80GP is designed to transport 30 passengers in a two-plus-two configuration, or up to 3,300kg (7,300lb) of cargo and is powered by two General Electric CT7 turboprops.
