The first launch of a production representative Raytheon AIM-9X short-range air-to-air missile has resulted in a direct hit - the eighth successful guided launch in the programme. Raytheon says the lookdown, shootdown launch from a US Navy Boeing F/A-18 against a QF-4 target dispensing countermeasures gave the imaging infrared-guided missile an "extremely challenging" desert clutter background.
