Farnborough's local economy benefits to the tune of $24 million thanks to the air show, according to figures released by the Society of British Aerospace Companies (SBAC).

That is more than double the figure previously estimated before SBAC commissioned a detailed survey.

Support

"We have always known the Farnborough air show is great for the local area and have always appreciated the support of the local community," said David Norriss, SBAC director of marketing and business support.

"Not only does the air show put Farnborough on the international map, but it also puts something back into the area – a substantial financial input of more than $24 million every two years."

Nearly half the figure is spent on hotel accommodation, with $11 million in a 40km radius of the site in show week alone.

The figure does not cover what is spent on self-catering, camping or hostels, which were outside the scope of the survey.

The rest of the money covers payment to the emergency services and local authorities, plus $2.25 million spent by the public and trade visitors.
