London Heathrow is preparing to receive the first commercial Airbus A380 flight into Europe following the departure of Singapore Airlines’ service from Changi Airport earlier today.
Flight SQ308 – which is being operated by SIA’s second A380, 9V-SKB – departed Singapore at 08:58 and is expected to arrive ahead of schedule at 14:44. It will dock at gate 3 at Heathrow’s Terminal 3.
SIA operates thrice-daily to Heathrow. The A380 will today temporarily replace the Boeing 747-400 normally used by SIA for the daylight service.
From tomorrow the A380 will be switched to SIA’s overnight service, arriving in London at the earlier time of 05:25, and at 05:55 when the summer schedule begins on 30 March.
SIA says that today’s flight is transporting 449 passengers. The aircraft, which is configured with 471 seats, is scheduled to depart on the return flight, SQ319, at 18:55.
Three A380s are in service with SIA. The carrier operates the Singapore-Sydney route with the type and will begin daily A380 services to Tokyo on 20 May.
