Singapore Airlines (SIA) has become the first Asian carrier to commit to the ultra-large A3XX with an "order subject to launch" for up to 25 of the aircraft. The carrier says its $8.6 billion deal for 10 aircraft on firm order, plus another 15 on option, also means it will be the first operator of the new type. SIA expects to take delivery of the firstA3XX in March 2006. It is to be followed by Emirates and Air France, two other airlines which (along with the International Lease Finance) have also committed to the A3XX as launch customers. Deliveries to SIA are to continue through 2011 and the carrier's 15 options can be exercised for either freighters or passenger variants.
