Singapore Airlines (SIA) has denied it intends to establish a new domestic airline in Australia, or is looking to acquire a stake in low-fare carrier Virgin Blue. Chairman Koh Boon Hwee says the airline has "more important priorities" than Australia. Air New Zealand (ANZ) and SIA are Star Alliance members, and there has been speculation in Australia that the carriers are seeking to establish a new domestic airline in the country following the collapse of Star Alliance partner Ansett Australia. SIA had an indirect stake in Ansett through its 25% holding in ANZ, which had full control of Ansett, although this holding is now down to just over 4%.
