Singapore Airlines (SIA) plans to start its non-stop passenger service to Los Angeles on 3 February. It is taking delivery of its first two Airbus A340-500s in December. SIA's non-stop flights to the USA are targeted at business travellers and its A340s will have a two-class seat configuration - 69 Raffles business class seats and 117 executive economy class seats. Executive economy is a new 'super economy class' being introducing with a seat pitch at around 37in, 3in more than found in regular A340 cabins.
