The South African Air Force has purchased a monocular helmet-sighting system, called the Guardian, for use on Cheetah fighters and Oryx medium-lift helicopters. The system has been developed by Denel of South Africa and Pilkington Optronics of the UK. Denel says that the Guardian is expected to be test-flown on British Aerospace Hawks, Sepecat Jaguars and GKN Westland Lynx early in 1998.
