Sikorsky is to sell six S-92 helicopters to Norwegian firm Aircontact gruppen. The two companies signed a letter of intent (LOI) at yesterday's show.

The aircraft will be delivered between 2004 and 2007 and will be offered for operating lease. It is a deal that strengthens commercial sales of the S-92, which secured a launch customer in the shape of Cougar Helicopters earlier this year.

Helijet, based in British Columbia, Canada and Copter Action of Finland have also ordered S-92s. The deal with Aircontact gruppen will give Sikorsky added impetus in its bid to win important military sales for the S-92, particularly the Nordic Standard Helicopter Programme, with a requirement for 50-100 machines.

Tommy Thomason, Sikorsky vice-president for civil programmes, says: "I know operators will appreciate the S-92 as a significant step up in medium helicopter capability. Its performance in test meets our challenging performance, reliability and operating cost goals."
