Sikorsky and Denmark-based Terma are broadening their cooperation, contingent upon a Danish order for MH-60R Seahawk helicopters.

Denmark is considering buying the Seahawk via a US government foreign military sales contract. The US Navy, which is administering the contract, says that it cannot disclose how many aircraft the northern European nation wants to buy.

AgustaWestland's AW159 Wildcat is also in the bidding for the Danish contact-which was necked-down to two competitors in January.

"Both of our companies are customer and innovation focused, which creates a solid foundation for collaboration," says Sikorsky vice president Robert Kokorda. "Opportunities where we see strong potential for collaboration include composites and electrical component manufacturing, as well as the use of Terma's survivability equipment on a number of our aircraft platforms."

Henrik Levy Rasmussen, Terma Global's vice-president says his company looks forward to working with the US defence giant.

"We see a significant match between Sikorsky Aircraft as a helicopter manufacturer and Terma as a niche-oriented high-tech company with a very focused international strategy," he says.
