Azerbaijan's Silk Way Group has been identified as the customer behind an order for 10 Boeing 737 Max 8s, worth $1.1 billion at list prices.
The order was previously attributed to an unidentified customer on Boeing's backlog.
"Silk Way's success and profitability is a direct result of investing in its fleet and services and growing its regional and international footprint," says Zaur Akhundov, president of Silk Way Group. "I am confident we will maintain our rate of growth, supported by 10 new Boeing 737 Max 8 airplanes."
Silk Way Group includes 23 aviation-related companies, such as Silk Way Airlines and Silk Way West Airlines. The group's affiliates already operate seven Boeing freighters comprising two 767-300Fs, three 747-400Fs and three 747-8Fs, says the manufacturer.
