The Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) is to relocate pilot screening to Australia under a three-year A$5 million ($3.2 million) contract with British Aerospace Flight Training Australia (BAe FTA).

The contract, signed in August, includes a seven-year option. It will see up to 240 pilot candidates screened each year at BAe FTA's Tamworth college, 180km (110 miles) north-west of Sydney.

The Singaporean contract is aimed at reducing pilot screening demands on the crowded airspace around the island nation.

BAe FTA general manager David Leach says 13 RSAF instructors will be based at Tamworth and four additional Pacific Aerospace CT-4Bs will be purchased.

Leach says BAe FTA is negotiating to buy four ex-Royal New Zealand Air Force aircraft from Airmotive of New Zealand. BAe FTA acquired 10 ex-Royal New Zealand Air Force aircraft last year to support Australian Defence Force training.
