Singapore’s transport ministry has restructured its Air Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) into the Transport Safety Investigation Bureau (TSIB), effective 1 August.
“The TSIB will conduct investigations into air and marine accidents and incidents, independently of and separately from any judicial or regulatory proceedings, and make recommendations to enhance the safety of air and sea transport,” says the ministry in a statement.
It adds that the new agency was set up to conduct investigations solely for the purpose of preventing further accidents and incidents.
It replaces the AAIB which was formed in 2002. Maritime safety will also come under the new bureau.
