Boeing training subsidiary Alteon is to open a high-tech training facility in Singapore.
To be located on a 1Ha (2.5 acre) site near Singapore's Changi International airport on the east of the island, the centre is expected to open in the first quarter of 2006.
It will have the capacity to train more than 6,000 pilot and flight attendant students a year and will house six full-flight simulators and other advanced training devices such as flat panel trainers.
Two of the simulators to be installed will be a Boeing 777-200/300 and an Airbus A320, to reflect the popularity of the aircraft among the region's expanding airlines. The other simulators will be selected in the next six months.
Alteon has more than 70 full-flight simulators installed in 20 locations around the world.
"We are delighted that Alteon has chosen Singapore as a location for its regional simulator training centre," says Teo Ming Kian, chairman of Singapore's Economic Development Board. "Alteon's presence not only adds another distinguished name to Singapore's aerospace landscape, but also to its position as a leading aviation hub."
Alteon president Pat Gaines says: "This will be Alteon's premier training centre in the South-East Asia region. We are committed to providing cost-effective training solutions to support airline operations by placing our training centres close to our customers."
