Elisra has launched a new combined DAS/ESM electronic warfare/electronic support measures system that combines the functionality of three or four boxes into one 6kg unit.
The SPS 65V unit combines numerous technologies into a single fully-digital package that weighs and costs the same as a single DAS or ESM module.
The DAS/ESM unit brings together radar and laser warning (RWR/LWS), missile warning (MAWS) and chaff and flare dispersal (CMDS), with full IR detection and sensing.
When combined with an Elbit-produced helmet-mounted display (HMD), and a four-IR sensor configuration such as those fitted on helicopters, a pilot now gets a real-time 160 view of the world outside.
And as he turns his head the scene moves with him, enabling him to see a full 360, even allowing him to see the tail rotor.
Nathan Catran, Elisra's deputy VP marketing, says its competitors will all now have to copy this single-box approach to remain competitive in terms of price, weight and commonality: "We have already had serious interest from two European countries and also from Asia," he says.
